New Teachers for 2019-20

Nikki Bylina-Streets

Hi Cubs! I was born and raised right here in viva Las Vegas. I went to Ruth Fyfe and MJ Christensen Elementary Schools, Booker Sixth Grade Center, Johnson Middle School and was part of the first graduating class of Las Vegas Academy, where I majored in dance! I received a bachelors and masters degree from UNLV, but what I’m most proud of is my masters degree from the University of Arizona in library sciences. Library is my true passion! I’m entering my 19th year teaching in CCSD.

I’m married to a high school teacher and coach and we have 2 amazing children. Our son is 12 and attends Fertitta MS and our daughter is 10 and joining the Cub Family as well! We also have a darling miniature schnauzer named Milo and he has the most dashing beard. I love all things pink, sparkly and cheetah print. My family and I enjoy going on HUGE and I mean HUGE road trips during the summers. And I wouldn’t be a great librarian if I didn’t love to READ! My favorite books are the ones that I see in children’s hands! I love to see kid’s faces light up when they are reading what they enjoy! I can’t wait to find out what everyone’s favorite books are!  Let’s make some library magic happen!

Amy Willey

Hello! My name is Mrs. Willey, and I am thrilled to be teaching at Vassiliadis Elementary School! Some of
you may remember me, as I have been a part of the Vassiliadis Elementary family since the school’s
opening. During my time at Vassiliadis in the past, I worked as a student teacher, CTT, and a long-term
substitute teacher. Since the last time you saw me, my name has changed from Ms. Teifer, to Mrs.
Willey, as I have recently gotten married. As I enter my second year of teaching, I look forward to
starting a new journey in the Special Education Department as the primary resource teacher.
As a Las Vegas native, I am a proud product of the Clark County School District and a UNLV graduate.
Besides teaching, I love all things Vegas Golden Knights, attending kickboxing classes, and escaping to
the beach as much as possible! To all of my future students, remember, “Excellence is not only in your
skills. It’s in your attitude.” Be kind, work hard, and all of your wildest dreams can come true!

Chara Mariani

Hello!  My name is Chara Mariani and I am thrilled to be a part of the Vassiliadis Community.  I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. I started my college career at UNLV where I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Education.  After that, I continued my education and received my Masters in Literacy. I have been teaching for 21 years ALL in FABULOUS first grade.  First grade is the most gratifying and exciting grade to teach!!

I am married to my high school sweetheart, M.J. and we have two beautiful daughters.  Madeline is 14 years old and will start her first year of high school! Yikes! Ava is 11 years old and will be in 7th grade. They both are very athletic.  Madeline plays soccer and Ava plays softball. I also have two golden retrievers named Jacks and Bentley who keep me busy! When I am not attending games for my girls or playing with my dogs, you can usually find me on a beach or shopping!

I love reading to my “love bugs” and having them think about connections they may have with the text.  My classroom library is plentiful and I can’t wait to share it with my new first graders. I believe amazing learning happens in a safe, encouraging, risk-free, and fun environment.  We will sing songs together, become better thinkers, and motivate each other to do our very best. I feel like Dr. Seuss said it best, “The more that you read, the more things you will know.  The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” I am excited to see all the places we’ll go in first grade at Vassiliadis and looking forward to a phenomenal year!

Brittany Dickinson

Hi families! I am so thrilled to be joining the Vassiliadis family this year! The 2019-2020 school year will be my 11th year teaching in the Clark County School District. I was born and raised in Las Vegas and attended CCSD schools. I later went to study at the University of Nevada Reno, where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. GO PACK! I also have a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Instruction with an emphasis in e-Learning/Technology and am currently enrolled in a teacher leadership program through a partnership with UNLV and SNRPDP. After graduating from UNR, I moved back to Las Vegas to be closer to my family.

My passion is teaching and inspiring students to be lifelong learners. I have taught a k-2 combination class at Odyssey Charter School, 1st grade, 3rd grade and was the PBIS Internal Coach at Eileen Conners Elementary School. I was a 3rd grade teacher and K-5 Reading Interventionist at James B. McMillan Elementary School.

When I am not teaching and spending time with the amazing students that I get to work with daily, I am spending time with my husband and 2 children. We have a 5 year old daughter (Charli Mae) who is as spunky as they come and a 3 year old son (Rhett) that really keeps us on our toes with his wild stunts and fiery personality! You can also find me reading a good book or working out at home or in a Crossfit gym. I cannot wait to meet all of your smiling faces and have an awesome year together!

Stephanie Koons

Hi! My name is Stephanie Koons and I am SO excited to be a part of the Vassiliadis team. I have been a teacher in the Clark County School District for 15 years. I have taught first, second, and third grade and have been in kindergarten for the last 6 years. Kindergarten is where my heart is; it is so much fun to teach! The littles ones are eager to learn and able to absorb so much information during their first year of “big kid” school. It’s absolutely amazing to see the academic and social growth they make in one short year!

I have lived in Las Vegas for the past 30 years. I attended CCSD elementary and middle schools and went to Bishop Gorman for high school. I graduated from UNLV in 2003 with my undergraduate degree and in 2007 with my Master’s Degree in education.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have a wonderful husband and two young children. My little girl will be starting kindergarten this year and my son will be in first grade! During time off, my family and I enjoy going up to the family cabin or taking the boat out on the lake. We love being outdoors!

I feel very lucky to be teaching kindergarten at this amazing school! I look forward to having a great first year at Vassiliadis.

I have two children. My son Lars graduated two years ago and my daughter, Allison, is in high school. I have been married for over 25 years to my husband Rick. He is my best friend. He has introduced me to the beauty of Nevada (he was raised in Las Vegas). We have hiked and backpacked some of the most beautiful places in this state. We love to camp, hike, ski, climb

and mountain bike. I love to read books and articles about the outdoors. My favorite author is Carl Hiaasen. Now, even though I do call Nevada a place to live, my heart will always call Maine my home. I do not get to go home much but when I do, I love to indulge in a good lobster dinner.
