Kristina Lutke - Early Childhood Inclusion

Lutke, Kristina.jpg

Hello, my name is Kristina Lutke and I am originally from Minnesota but moved to Las Vegas 13 years ago.  I went to college at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where it was very cold, so I love Las Vegas weather.  I have been teaching preschoolers with special needs for 15 years and can’t think of anything I’d rather be doing.  For the last 3 years, I have had the opportunity to support other early childhood special education teachers working with Student Support Services.  I’m excited to be back in the classroom and to be able to bring my own children with me.  In my classroom, students get lots of hands-on activities.

I am married to a teacher, and we have 2 young, energetic children, Gavin & Siena, who I am sure you’ll see around the school!  In our free time, you can find us watching the kids play sports, camping, traveling, and swimming.  I also enjoy reading and baking.

Honestly, I can’t pick just one of my favorite books, but I do love hearing my own kids read & retell stories.  I encourage all families to read to their child every night and let him/her read to you (even if it’s by just looking at the pictures).

My message to my classroom is, “It’s okay to get messy; as long as you’re having fun & learning.”

Unique Brown - Special Educator, Intermediate SLD

Brown, Unique.jpg

Hello, my name is Unique Brown and I am honored to be joining the Vassiliadis team for the 2020-2021 school year! I am a true Vegas native; born and raised. I attended CCSD schools for elementary, middle, and high school. I graduated from a wonderful magnet high school called Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy where I completed their Law Enforcement program. I originally wanted to be a police officer before I fell in love with teaching and working with kids. I completed my undergrad at UNLV (Go Rebels!) and received my Bachelor’s of Science in Special Education.

A bit about me, I’m married to the man of my dreams who is a firefighter. We’ve been married for four years and we keep ourselves busy with an energetic pitbull named Pam (she is the sweetest!). When I’m not teaching I love relaxing at home, going on date nights with my husband, and taking spin classes. You can also find me shopping, volunteering at Child Haven, crafting decorations for my classroom, and looking for any excuse to have another cup of coffee.

I love creating a safe and loving classroom environment where all children are represented and encouraged to try new things. I believe in setting high expectations and encouraging students to try their personal best. We are kind to one another, we work towards independence, and we know it’s okay to make mistakes because they help us learn and grow. I cannot wait for the phenomenal year that is ahead of us working with our excellent Special Education team and families!

Angela Dimalanta - Primary Autism

Greetings! My name is Angela Dimalanta. I am thrilled to be part of this amazing team at Vassiliadis which has always felt like home to me. My family includes Randolf, (my husband) and five wonderful children: Aisa-21, Iman Karin-19, Mayumi-18, Karisyo-12, and Halina-10. I have been in the school district for 16 years. I started as a stay-at-home-mom, became very involved in the PTA, started substitute teaching in the district and eventually taught 5th grade and 2nd grade in CCSD. Life has given me many blessings and one of them is certainly the opportunity to be part of the Cubs Team!

I was born in Canada, but grew up mostly in the Bay Area in California. I have a BS in Sociology with a Minor in Women’s Studies from San Jose State University. I completed the Elementary Education Program at Santa Clara University and started teaching in California 25 years ago.  Randolf and I were married 23 years ago and started our family in Kansas City, where I taught 2nd grade for two years there until our first child was born. Seventeen years ago, we moved to Las Vegas. While raising our children, I was fortunate to return to school and complete my Masters in Education in Health Promotion at UNLV. Now, as I join the Special Education team, I am back in school again to perfect my craft and provide the best for our Primary Autism students. I look forward to meeting my students and their families, building relationships and helping the students thrive.

When time allows, I am cooking, baking, running, exploring the outdoors, singing, and spending time with family and close friends. I am a Certified Hot Hula Fitness Instructor which brings my heart and soul much joy!  I am also an Elite Yelper, so you may find me writing reviews in my spare time as well! It is important to me to instill a love of life-long learning in my family and every student I meet. It is also my goal to help every child realize their full potential, discover their strengths, begin right where they are, and grow from there! This will be a FANTASTIC year!

Nechama Gewirtz - Special Educator, Intermediate Resource

Gewirtz, Nechama.jpg

Hello! My name is Nechama Gewirtz and I am so excited to join the Vassiliadis Team! I come from a family of educators in which education was always a priority. I knew from a very young age that I would want to continue on that same path. My first teaching job was straight out of high school and I have never looked back since! This will be the start of my 17th year teaching and I couldn’t be more excited.

I grew up in New York where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree and a dual Master’s Degree in General Education and Special Education in both early childhood and elementary education at Daemen College. After that, I continued my education and received my second Master’s Degree in Educational Administration at St. John’s University. In New York, I taught early childhood, special education for many years and then K-8 resource room as well. In New York, I met my husband, Shimon, and we have been married for 14 years. We have five beautiful children, 3 boys and twin girls!

In 2014, we relocated to sunny Las Vegas due to my husband’s job and we couldn’t be happier. For the past three years I have been a Resource teacher at Cashman Middle School in grades 6-8. It was there that I decided to further my credentials and pursued my National Boards Certification which was a real learning experience for me. While I do love working with middle school students, my passion is truly in elementary school and I am so excited to be back!

As a family, we enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, hiking at Red Rock, rollerblading, swimming and spending time in parks (Fox Hills is our family favorite:). In my free time I enjoy working out at the gym, biking, cooking, reading and spending time with family and friends.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year at Vassiliadis. I believe that children learn best from those they trust and feel comfortable with. My goal is to create those relationships with my students so I can have a greater impact on their learning and their lives.

Lindsay Schoener - Special Educator, Primary Resource

Schoener, Lindsay.jpg

My name is Lindsay Schoener and I am so excited to be part of the Vassiliadis team! I was born and raised in Las Vegas, but ventured out for college and attended the University of Redlands (Go Bulldogs!) where I received my Bachelors in Communicative Disorders and had the privilege of working and learning in the campus speech clinic with master students. That is where I found my love of working on developing language with children. I returned home to obtain my Masters in Special Education with an endorsement in Autism and Early Childhood Developmentally Delayed from UNLV. After graduating with my Masters I began teaching Special Education for CCSD.

I am married with two amazing children. Our daughter, Gray, keeps us busy with her love of dance and competing. Carson, our son, loves playing sports especially baseball and watching his favorite baseball team play…Go Cubs Go!  We love spending time with our extended family and trips to the beach.  When I have down time, I love to run, play tennis, and spend time with my sister and mom. Teaching has always been apart of my life; I grew up with a mom who taught for CCSD. Each year I look forward to meeting my new students and families, I love working with and learning from the students in my class. My favorite books to read each year are ones written by Eric Carle. I love the way he creates the amazing illustrations throughout his stories and how he his stories inspire the readers to grow and discover.  I look forward to a great year!
